E. Conclusions
Main Mine Site
MB-1 Pond:
' The increasing ground water levels and surface displacements recorded around the MB-1 Pond are a
concern and it is expected that increased ground water levels in this area will contribute to increased
instability. As discussed in the 151 quarter report it might be beneficial to jet the horizontal drains
' located in this area to ensure that they aze not clogged and restricting drainage out of the colluvium
material that becomes unstable when it is saturated.
North of FW-1 Pond:
The sub-surface displacements recorded in this area during the 2nd quarter 2006 are a concern as this
azea has been stabilized by piles at the toe of the main landslide. The rate of movement of each of
these inclinometers, along with the direction based on surface mirrors, will be measured in
subsequent months, along to ensure that the landslide is not moving around the piles to the west.
It is also recommended that additional surface mirrors be installed to the west of the main landslide
in the azea south of the ROM stock piles and west of the old main substation to keep a check on
surface movements occurring in this azea.
Old Main Substation:
The ground water level in piezometer I-26P and WIJ will be measured in subsequent months and if
a drop is not measured, remedial action may be required as it is known that saturated colluvium
creates instability in the main landslide slope. In addition, as discussed in the ls` quarter report it
might be beneficial to clean out the horizontal drains located in this azea with a high pressure hose
to ensure that they are not clogged and restricting drainage.
Above the Material Storase Bench IMSBI:
' An engineering design for a dewatering trench at the MSB that will help alleviate the high ground
water levels at this location is currently under review by MCC.
' Main Administration Buildin¢:
The increase in ground water levels at this location is particulazly of concern as a result of
' movement experienced by the crane in the wazehouse towazds the end of 2005. In addition, this is
the azea where a new pazking lot has been proposed to be installed. This was not stabilized by piles
at the toe of the main landslide during 1998 and is therefore susceptible to significant landslide
' activity when the colluvium becomes saturated. It is recommended that the horizontal drainage
wells located south of this azea be cleaned out with a high pressure hose to ensure that debris is not
' restricting their drainage capacity.
Barr Engineering Company 2n° Quarter 2006
t 06/26-031 Geotechnical Monitoring
