C. Inclinometers
Main Mine Site Inclinometers
North of FW-1 Pond:
Inclinometer I1C-3, north of FW-1 Pond showed an increase in displacement (0.25 inch) to a depth
of 50 feet below the ground surface since 1~` quarter 2006. The displacement at this location can be
regarded as creep as there is no distinct shear plane present.
Inclinometer I1C-23 measured increased displacements in the order of 0.1 inch since the 1~` quarter
2006. A total displacement of 2 inches has been measured at this location since 1998. The
displacement at this location is cleazly defined by a sheaz surface that is located at elevation 6220,
or approximately 60 feet below the ground surface.
Inclinometer I98-06 continued to show displacements in the colluvium down to a depth of 55 feet
below the ground surface. A total displacement of 1.5 - 2.0 inches has been recorded at this
location since 1998. The displacement at this location is cleazly defined by a sheaz plane located at
55 feet below the ground surface.
The sub-surface displacements recorded in this azea during the 2nd quarter 2006 aze a concern as this
area has been stabilized by piles at the toe of the main landslide. The rate of movement of each of
these inclinometers, along with the direction based on surface mirrors, will be measured in
subsequent months, along to ensure that the landslide is not moving azound the piles to the west.
It is also recommended that additional surface mirrors be installed to the west of the main landslide
in the area south of the ROM stock piles and west of the old main substation to keep a check on
surface movements occurring in this azea.
South of Purchasing Buildin¢:
Inclinometer I99-02 is showing an increase in displacement since the 1~` quarter 2006 of up to 0.2
inches. A total displacement of up to 3 inches has been recorded at this locafion since 1999. The
displacement at this location is cleazly defined by a sheaz plane located at 45 feet below the ground
surface.
Significant surface displacement has been recorded by inclinometer I02-08 during the 2°d quarter
2006. Displacements in the order of 0.5 inches down to 5 feet below the ground surface have been
recorded. This displacement is most likely creep and related to saturation of the colluvium material
as a result of spring thaw.
The movement recorded at these locations is a concern due to their close proximity to the proposed
pazking lot and existing mine infiastructure. It is recommended that additional surface mirrors be
placed on the decline south of the proposed pazking lot to keep a check on surface movements
occurring in this azea.
Bart Engineering Company 2ntl Quarter 2006
06/26-031 Geotechnical Monitoring
