Four States Aggregates, LLC
P. 0. Box 1568
CORTEZ, COLORADO 81321
(970) 565-3388 RECEIVED
May 20, 2002 J:.'.d 0 3 2002
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology "'y'6+un of Minerals and Geulp~y
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 215
DENVER, CO 80203
(303) 866-3467
SUBJECT: 2002 ANNUAL FEE AND REPORT FOR M-2001-001 (LINE CAMP PIT)
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
Enclosed is the Annual Report form for the Line Camp Pit, M-2001-001, for the reporting
year ending May 23, 2002, with a map and the annual fee.
Since permitting in 2001, due to difficulties in obtaining two other permits (from CDOT
and CDWR), very little mining activity has taken place, despite the mild winter. At
present, 6 acres has been affected and not reclaimed and released. The work included
stripping approximately 5 acres of the southern end of the permit area and constructing
and stabilizing the berms around the southern end of the permit areas. Seeding was
done in Fail 2001, but due to the relatively low precipitation during the winter, has not
fully established itself.
In addition to stripping, a test pit to ground water was dug and then refilled in
accordance with CDWR instructions, while permitting for the gravel pit well (including
approval of a substitute water supply plan) proceeds. An agreement with Montezuma
Valley Irrigation Company to store water for release during out-of-priority periods to
replace water consumed in operations has been approved, and we expect the permit for
the well to be issued soon. The CDOT permit is required to construct a new entry onto
SH 145 for access to the pit and the Line Camp; after a favorable appeal, the plans are
being reviewed for approval by DOT to construct the access road and associated turn
lane and shoulders.
Assuming these permits are approved and issued, virtually all work originally planned
for 2001 will instead be performed in 2002. Otherwise, mining will proceed as planned.
We have notified the Montezuma County Commissioners of this situation. Based on the
drought conditions and anticipated sand and gravel sales, we will work to conserve
water and do not expect to expose any significant amount of ground water during the
2002 mining season (now through September).
