Box 1299
Paonia, Co. 81428
Re: Orchard Valley Mine Gob Pit
Dear Basil:.
PAGE 02
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
On May 8, 1998, l inspected the area of the Orchard _Velley _Mlne Gob Pil on the Weal Ridge. knoym. _ __.._ _ _ _
as Technical Revision 25. Apparertdy, ttils area had had standing water due to a sewer line Ixeak above
it. When I visited the site on this day, the compaction of the area looked to be very good. I also, walked
on the downslopes to look for any cracks or signs of sliding. However, there was no evidence to indicate
the stabil'riy of the area of the Gab P'd had been adversely afterted by the standing water on the
aforementioned area.
On Monday, May 8, 1998, I had Lambert end Associates wma to the Gob Pit and perform three
compaction tests on this area to coMrrTr that the area rod not suffered on compaction due to the
previously standing water. The results showed ell areas to pass, with two 100's and one 93 %
compaction. The results are attached to thls letter.
Traditionaly when a new year of laying lifts is commenced after a shutdown, the last lift is scraped up
and all arses leveled up and keyed to the future IIRs. When work commences in this area, this should be
the procedure followed.
~ Sincerely,
7~~~~8
Patricia M. S.
