ALBERT FRET AND SONS, INC.
WORTHING SUBDlVlSlON
CASE # SS76-ZP
the spillways and liner needed to develop the storage lake.
Construction would begin shortly there after. If we determine
the project is not feasible we will shut the pumps off after the
gravel and shale have been removed and the lake will refill with
ground water. No matter the final plan, the lake will hide the
newly mined area below the lake surface.
we will begin the operation by installing a pump in the
northwest corner of the lake and pumping the water to the river.
Once the floor is exposed, we will dig dewatering trenches around
the perimeter and lower the pump to remove as much water from the
excavation area. This will allow us to draw as much water as
possible from the shale and make it Baser to remove. Mining will
begin by removing as much gravel material as possible from the
floor of the lake so the underlaying shale is exposed. During
the trenching we will explore the floor to see if our suspicions
are correct concerning the silt lens.
Once the shale is exposed and has dried mining will begin by
using scraping equipment to remove the material. If mining
removes shale, it will go directly to the highway project and
sand and gravel will be moved to the south area for processing.
We will remove the dividers between the main lake and two
eastern lakes leaving a single lake on the property controlled by
Albert Frei and a small lake on the Tashiros' property. We will
place fill along the west property line between the Frei and
Yashiro parcels to create the smaller lake so the lake owned by
the Tashiros' will not co-mingle with the Frei Lake. All the
fill work will take place on Frei property with on site materi-
als.
We estimate this change in the mining plan will extend the
life of the mining operation by 3 years, if our suspicions of a
deep gravel lens are correct. MKK estimates it will take I.5
months to dewater the site, 3 months to dry the material and 3
months to remove it to their project area, so shale removal will
end by late summer. If on the other hand, we find there is very
little gravel left in the bottom we will complete mining and
reclamation within 10 years. The existing slopes will be left
undisturbed in the mined area, we will clean the floor, dress the
slopes created by shale and gravel removal and let the lake fill
with water. If we create the reservoir it will add 1 to 3 years
to complete engineering and lining. There is no time limit on
the mine life at this time and we prefer to leave it that way.
9
