Sample Adequacy -
• A summary of sample adequacy calculations for the parameters of cover, herbaceous production,
and woody plant density is presented in Table 23 (Appendix 1). For monitoring purposes,
.achievement of sample adequacy was not critically important. For most of the cover data sets,
adequacy was achieved. For herbaceous production and woody plant density, the results of
sample adequacy calculation suggest the need for larger plot size. For production, the drought
conditions are thought to have increased heterogeneity. Were bond release to be tested during
drought times as 2002, production sampling should probably be conducted with three or four 0.5
sq.m. subplots evenly spaced along the cover /woody plant density transect. For woody plant
density, the heterogeneity of sample values has always been high. It is likely that enlarging the
plot size to 2 x 150 m would be appropriate to reduce the variance in these data sets to the point
that (with the help of square root transformation and a detection limit (d) of 0.15 as proposed by
DMG) sample adequacy can be achieved.
r1
f~J

20
