SURFACE WATER MONITORING
There is four (4) surface monitoring points within the permitted
area. Pond 003, Pond 004 and 2 French Drains, French Drain Upper
(FD-U) and French Drain Lower (FD-L).
Pond 003
Pond 003 located at the Bear #2 Mine site had no discharge and was
reclaimed on September 1,0, 1993.
Pond 004
As a result of above average snow pack from the previous winter,
Pond 004 began discharging on March 29, and continued through April
1993. Pond 004 discharged approximately 54,000 gallon (0.16 acre
feet) during this period. Field test for temperature,
conductivity and salinity from Pond 004 was tested by a YSI (Yellow
Springs Instrument) Model #33. The Ph levels were taken using a
Cole Palmer Model #5941-00 Ph meter. Time measurements to fill a
one gallon bucket were used to determined the gpm. All other
parameters were determined by collecting samples in precharged
bottles and submitting them to ACZ Laboratories, Inc. of Steamboat
Springs, Colorado, for analysis. The results of discharged water
data collected during 1993 are presented in Appendix 2.
RESULTS
In evaluating field test and water analysis reports, Pond 004 had
no apparent effects on the water in the North Fork of the Gunnison
River.
French Drain - Upper
As of April 13, 1993, the upper drain was conveying a flow of 4
gallons per minute from the slide's failure surface. As of May
29th, the drain was conveying 2 gallons per minute and slowed to a
trickle as of August 3rd then shortly after flow ceased.
French Drain - Lower
This French Drain was installed on October 07, 1993 and has had no
flow.
