• manganese values remain somewhat variable. Manganese concentrations during 1995 in well 008-AV-2 were
generally lower than those recorded in 1994. The manganese levels documented during 1995 maintained
levels within the historical ranges established at this site.
Spoils
Two wells in the backfilled area of Mine 3 (008-SP-4A and 008-SP-SA) were installed in 1985 to monitor
water levels and water quality in mine spoils (see Figure 2). One well, 008-SP-4A, remained dry since it
was installed. During 1992, the well was determined to have a separated casing. As a result, CYCC
installed a replacement spoil monitoring well (008-SP~B) near the northern embanlanent of Pond M3S (Site
76). Due to the timing of this installation, CYCC did not provide initial monitoring information for the
replacement well until the 1993 AHR submittal.
Water Levels -Plots of historic water levels in the two currently monitored Mine 3 spoil wells are presented
as Figures 12 and 13 in this report. 1995 water levels occurced at levels typical for these sites.
Water Quality -Water quality data for the Mine No. 3 spoil wells is presented on Tables 8, 8a, 9, and 9a.
A plot of historic total dissolved solids concentration for well 008-SP-SA is presented as Figure 14. Water
quality constituent concentrations for all parameters monitored at well 008-SP~B during 1995 were without
• exception within the established ranges historically associated with this site. Five water quality constituent
concentrations measured for well 008-SP-SA during 1995 fell beyond the ranges established to date for this
site. New maximum values noted during 1995 for well 008-OSP-SA include lab conductivity, total and
bicarbonate alkalinity, sulfate, and manganese recorded in September.
Dissolved solids concentrations appear highly variable in well 008-SP-SA (see Figure 14). The spoil well
water is acalcium-sulfate type with high bicarbonate and relatively low SAR. The water is higher in
dissolved solids than the background bedrock levels and spoil spring discharges. The 1995 data does not
indicate any significantly high trace metals concentrations. Manganese levels remained comparable in well
008-SP-4B to the values returned during 1994.
SURFACE WATER MOMTOR[NG
Foidel Creek in the vicinity of Mine 3 is monitored for flow and water quality at USGS Site 09243900 also
known as Site 900. Site 900 is located on Foidel Creek approximately one-half mile upstream of the
confluence of Foidel and Middle Creeks (see Figure 2). Middle Creek in the vicinity of Mine 3 is monitored
for flow and water quality at two (2) locations. USGS Site 09243700, also known as Site 700, is located
on Middle Creek approximately one mile upstream of the confluence of Foidel and Middle Creeks; Site 29
• is located on Middle Creek approximately one mile downstream of the confluence with Foidel Creek (see
Figure 2).
-4-
