• 2.5 Fire Areas
2.5.1 FAOO1
FA001 is comprised of 2.19 acres of moderately sloping revegetation/native that has a
predominately southeasterly aspect This unit was accidentally burned in the summer of 2002 and
seeded during the fall of 2002, and therefore, has undergone one growing season prior to sampling in
2003. A total of 18 plant taxa were observed in the unit (see Table 19).
Seedling emergence data (Tables 16 and 57) from 10 quadrats in FA001 revealed that there was an
average of 1 perennial seedling per square foot. An average density of 0.90 was attributed to perennial
gresses while the remaining 0.10 seedlings per square foot were from perennial forts. No shrub
seedlings were documented from the quadrat sampling effort. Annual species, especially cheatgrass and
Russian thistle, contributed an average of 2.70 seedlings per square foot Woody plant density data were
rewrded from the 10 sampling quadrats. Although numerous shrubs and species were observed in the
area, no emergent shrubs were documented from the sampling effort
• Noxious weeds appear to be controlled in this unit First year seedling emergence is fair for
perennial grasses and forts, while shrub emergence is lacking. Because of the scattered abundance of
cheatgrass in places throughout the unit, spot use of the herbicide Oust or Plateau for control is
recommended. Such control should help release the perennials remaining in the understory.
I•
Ken~lt Energy C0. / Colowyo Mine Page 62 Revegetatlon Monkoring -2003
