• 2.4.2 S16030
516010 is comprised of 15.17 aces of gentle to moderatey sloping revegetation that has a
predominatey southeasterly aspect. This unit was seeded in 19% and therefore, has undergone seven
growing seasons prior to sampling in 2003. A total of 45 plant taxa, including Canada thistle, were
observed in the unit (see Table 19). Current annual production across the unit averaged 2,481 pounds
per acre in 2003 with perennial grasses the dominant category (see Table 1). Ground Dover (Fgure 15)
consisted of 59.7% live vegetation, 0.6% rods, 0.0% standing dead, 20.5% litter, and bare soil exposure
of 19.3%. Perennial cover across the unit averaged 54.2% with annual and biennial cover averaging only
5.6%. The dominant taxa were intermediate wheatgrass, thickspike wheatgrass, Kentucky bluegrass,
and cicer milkvetch (AStragalus craer) with 14.2%, 14.0%, 4.2%, and 3.7% average cover, respedivey.
Woody plant density was determined from 20 heft transects and totaled 265 young and mature stems per
acre (Table 2) with big sagebrush the dominant woody plant. With regard to diversity, 516010 exhibited
7 perennial grasses and 1 perennial fort with between 3% and 50% relative cover.
Unit S16010 currently passes the bond release diversity standard of 3 perennial grasses and 1
perennial fort with between 3% and 50% relative cover. This unit should also readiy pass both the
• cover and production bond release comparisons to the reference areas. This unit does not presently
meet the woody plant standard of 90% of 1000 stems per aae and will probaby not meet this in the
foreseeable future. See Appendix AA -Section 7.4 for a discussion on options and recommendations with
regard to woody plant density. Noxious weeds and annual bromes appear to be controlled in this unit
although a few scattered individual Canada thistles were observed.
At present, 516010 is a good example of an improved pasture grassland community that would
contribute to the kxal system as foraging habitat for wildlife (espedaly elk), as v+eN as provide a variety
of management opportunities for livestock grazing.
•
icennecoo erergy Co. / Cdowyo rune Page 53 Revegetatlon MonttoAng -2003
