• 2.2.8 EP043
EP043 is comprised of 13.89 acres of moderetety sloping revegetation that has a predominatety
northeasterly aspect. This unit was seeded in 2002 and therefore, has undergone one growing season
prior to sampling in 2003. A total of 23 plant taxa were observed in the unit (see Table 19).
Seedling emergence data (Table 16 and 55) from 40 quadrats revealed an average of 1.88 perennial
seedlings per square foot. An average density of 1.35 was attributed to perennial grasses while 0.38
seedlings per square foot were from perennial forts and 0.15 was attributed to shrubs. Annual species,
especially field pennycr~s and Russian thistle, contributed an average of 1.60 seedlings per square foot.
Woody plant density (Table 17) totaled 6,534 shrub seedlings per acre with big sagebrush and antelope
bitterbrush (Purshia tridentate) the dominant woody plants. Given the effort to favor shrub
establishment by limiting the grass and fort component of the community, it appears following one
growing season, that the potential for success is very encouraging. Another two or three years of
positive development will be required before success can be determined with a higher degree of
probability.
• Noxwus weeds and annual bromes appear to be controlled in this unit. First year seedling
emergence can be considered good for perennial grasses and forts and very good for shrubs. Given
adequate precipitation and high shrub seedling survival, this unit should develop as planned into a
moderately dense shrub patch in a mix of perennial grasses and forts.

xennxou Energy Co. / Cdowyo Mine Page 32 Revegetatlon Monttorlrrg -2003
