• 2.2.6 EP038
EP038 is comprised of 4.08 aces of moderately sloping revegetation that has a predominately
easterly aspect. This unit was seeded in 2001 and therefore, has undergone only two growing seasons
prior to sampling in 2003. A total of 40 plant taxa were observed in the unit (see Table 19).
Ground Dover (Figure 6) in EP038 consisted of 44.2% live vegetation, 2.7% rock, 1.3% standing
dead, 15.4% litter, and bare soil exposure of 36.5%. Perennial wver across tfie unit averaged 4.5% with
annual and biennial cover averaging 39.7%. Dominant taxa were field pennycress (Thalspl anrense), and
Russan thistle (Salsola aus(ralis) with 18.6% and 17.3% average cover, respedively. Woody plant
density was determined from 15 UeR transeds. Density (Table 2) totaled 264 young and mature stems
per acre wdh fourwing sattbusfi the dominant woody plant.
Noxious weeds appear to be controlled in this unit and the cheatgrass population is subdued unit-
wide except for the nortl~east comer where a dense stand should be monitored. Although cover by the
early-seral spades, field pennycress and Russian thistle, is elevated, ground cover by perennials appears
suffident to progress to dominance over the next few years. The shrub population is modest, but
• growing well. Ovewll, the unit appears typical of reasonable two-year old revegetation, therefore no
recommendations are proffered other than oontlnued monitoring, espedally during the fourth growing
season (2005).
•
Ken~woon Energy co. ~ Cduvyu Mane Page 26 Revegetatlon Monttortng -2003
