• 2.2.2 EP029
F_P029 is comprised of 16.0 acres of gently sloping revegetation that has a predominately
northeasterly aspen. This unit was seeded in 1996 and therefore, has undergone seven growing seasons
prior to sampling in 2003. A total of 45 plant taxa were observed in the unit (see Table 19). Current
annual production across the unit averaged 997 pounds per acre in 2003 with perennial grasses the
dominant category (see Table 1). Ground Dover in EP029 (Fgure 2) wnsisted of 49.6% live vegetation,
1.1% rock, 1.1% standing dead, 24.3% litter, and bare soil exposure of 24.1%. Perennial cover across
the unit averaged 45.4% with annual and biennial cover averaging 4.2%. Dominant taxa were thickspike
wheatgrass (Agropyron dasystachyum), intermediate wheatgress, Siberian wheatgrass (Agropyron
sibericum), and cicer milkvetch (Astragalus acer) with 12.5%, 12.2%, 5.2%, and 3.7% average cover,
respectively. Woody plant density was determined from 20 heft transects. Density (Table 2) totaled 101
young and mature stems per acre with big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) the dominant woody plant.
With regard to diversity, EP029 exhibited 5 perennial grasses and 1 perennial fort with between 3% and
50% relative cover.
Unit EP029 currently passes the land release diversity standard of 3 perennial grasses and 1
• perennial fort with between 3% and 50% relative cover. This unit should also readily pass both the.
cover and production bond release comparisons to the reference areas. This unit does not presently
meet the woody plant standard of 90% of 1000 stems per acre and will probably not meet this in the
foreseeable future. See Appendix AA -Section 7.4 for a discussion on options and recommendations with
regard to woody plant density. Noxious weeds and annual bromes appear to be under control in this
unit, although Canada thistle was still observed.
At present, EP029 is another good example of an improved pasture grassland community that would
wntribute to the local system as foraging habitat for wildlife (especially elk), as well as provide a variety
of management opportunities for livestock grazing,
r1
L_J
Kennecort rnergy Co. / Cdowyo trine Page 14 Revegetatlon MonROring -2003
