Dip[. of Na?ur;l F-ie~~~y,
As you requested, I have compiled your analytical data for your past
five quarterly water samples from sites AAI, AAII, and AAIII.
After reviewing the data, I found several problems. The first problem
was the dissolved solids results for the three samples tested on
10/31/83 appeared to be low. I rechecked the raw data for this test
and found the dissolved .solids were mis-calculated. The corrected
values are included in the charts. The second problem concerned the
labeling of the samples. A sample labeled ~1 dated 2/28/83 has
analytical data that does not correlate with the other AAI samples.
The data from this sample is more in-line with the AAIII samples. We
placed this data with the AAIII samples and assumed that no AAI sample
was taken on 2/28/83 since we received only two samples.
Over all, the analytical data was fairly consistent between quarters
and was of acceptable ground water quality except for several
parameters which had high, unacceptable concentrations for ground
water. Those parameters include aluminum, copper, iron and lead. The
reason for the high concentration for these parameters is that the
parameters are total recoverable and not dissolved which is normally
associated with ground water. Total recoverable metal concentrations
will be higher than dissolved metal concentrations. The total
recoverable concentration includes both dissolved metal and metal that
is adsorbed to the surface of the soil particles in the water. The
adsorbed metal goes into solution when nitric acid is added to the
sample. Samples from AAI, AAfI, and AAIII have consistantly had a
high suspended solids which is probably the reason for the high metal
concentration.
