r
Mr. Greg Lewicki
Greg Lewicki and Associates
June 24,1997
Selection of the proposed well's location should take into account Trout
Creek's influence on any alluvial ground water contamination that may
come from the site and the possible flow path of any such contamination.
The proposed new alluvial monitoring well can be expected to adequately
detect ground water contamination from the Apex site thus eliminating the
need for drilling any deeper than the alluvium.
6. Proposed reactivation of reclaimed upstream alluvial monitoring well.
Since 1995 when an upstream alluvial monitoring well was backfilled,
water in the alluvium upstream from the Apex site has been sampled by
taking samples directly out of Trout Creek. Now Apex has agreed to
reopen this old alluvial well for monitoring as noted in Item 5 in the
Division's questions and comments letter for the 1995 annual hydrology
report (letter dated February 20, 1997). The well has not yet been reopened.
Page 4
Taking upstream water samples from this alluvial well, rather than from
Trout Creek itself ,will allow more valid comparisons to be made between
data from up-gradient and down-gradient alluvial water samples. The
Division requests that a written clarification of the plans for reactivating ~ p ,9
this well be included in the revisior: mentioned in /tem 4 above. Also, the 1`
Division requests that you note in the update requested in Item 3, above, the
approximate date in 1995 when the upstream well was bac~lled.
Reminder on pond reports. Please provide a P.E. stamp on the pond ~c19 ~ l°r°"~
reports and submit them to the Division on a quarterly basis according to ~ off- g~'
the schedule on page 65.06 of the Apex permit application.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
T.>~ r~.~d,~,.~~.2
Tom Kaldenbach
Environmental Protection Specialist
