No.: Primary Refuse Disposal Areas
Inspection Period: Second Quarter 2001
Inspection Date: 8/21/01
General Description or Reference to Site Plan:
The refuse area lies west of the main facilities area. Refuse has been placed in designed lifts
on a relatively flat terrain. Upslope runoff is diverted away from the disposal area, while runoff
from the disturbed area is channeled to a sediment control pond. A majority of the disposal area
has been reclaimed and exhibits good vegetative growth. The mine is now in final reclamation.
Activity During Inspection:
Area was idle during the inspection. Only essential maintenance is being performed to ensure
compliance with State and Federal laws until the remaining final reclamation can be completed.
Drainage: (Discussion of springs. seeps, overland and channel flow, underdrain construction and/or
discharge, integrity of 100-year 24-hour drainage structures, and evidence of positive drainage).
No springs or seeps were observed on the refuse surtace. Positive drainage has been maintained
on the reclaimed areas. Drainage and diversion structures were intact. All required underdrain
construction has been completed.
Observation of Fill Construction: (Description of material, compaction, lift thicknesses, slopes,
and construction methods).
Nc refuse placement has occurred since December of 2000. Prior to cessation of mining, waste
materal was placed in alternating lifts of fine and coarse material in accordance with the plan as
described in the TerraMatrix report dated December 5, 1996.
