Anyone who discharges
pollutants from a point source to state waters must first have a CDPS permit. For gravel pits, typical sources
of pollutants that require a CDPS permit are pit dewatering, wash water, and stormwater.
[f operation of the pit will result in the discharge of any of these or any other source of pollutants to state
waters, you or the operator, if someone else, will need to obtain a CDPS permit. We have a permit application
that covers all of these sources. A copy of this application is enclosed. If no pit water, wash water or other
process-related water will be discharged, a stormwater-only permit is required. An application for stormwater-
otily discharge is also enclosed as are various informational documents. If no process-related water is ever
discharged and all stormwater is retained on site, neither permit is required.
Please feel free to contact me at (303) 692-3605 if you have any questions about these permits. Stotmwater-
specific questions should be directed to Nathan Moore in our stormwater group at (303) 692-3555.
For more information about possible requirements concerning the removal of the ridge of gravel in the river,
please contact Susan McIntyre in the Division's Assessment Unit at (303) 692-3586.
Sincerely,
Jon CC.
