GREG LEWICY,I
_ .~
TEL~1-303-629-9335 Nav 14.98 16 40 No .001 P.02
Summer and Fall Water Report
1998
Apex H2 Mine
Permit C-Sf-017
;.;
In all of 1998 up to the beginning of November, the single sediment pond for the
entire disturbed area did not discharge; it only contained water in the spring as a
result of snowmelt. All disturbed area is channeled into the sediment pond except for
a small exemption area of less than 0.1 acre located at the reclaimed office area. The
sediment pond discharge is permitted with the Colorado Department of Health as
NPDES Permit NCOG-850041. (The permit was formerly C'0-0036668). Quarterly DMR
forms are attached for the year. Quarterly sediment pond inspections revealed no
problems with functionality of the pond.
Trout Creek, the perennial stream located adjacent to the reclaimed yard area, was
tested quarterly for pN, Specific conductance, temperature and flow. The sample
location was moved to immediately downstream of the reclaimed area. A sample for
analysis was also made in the early fell and was sent to AC7, Labs in Steamboat
Springs for analysis. All results are attached for this analysis. The date for 1998
showed normal conditions, with normal flows in Trout Creek. The surface water lab
analysis shows low TDS (140 mglL) and all other ions in low concentrations. The
water is of good quality and comperes favorably to the baseline analysis included in
the permit. Iron, zinc and arsenic are in low concentration.
All portal seals are intact and do not show any signs of seepage or other problems. The
mine or its reclamation has not had any adverse effect on the prevailing hydrologic
balance. The diversion ditch above the minesite along the residential access road
required cleaning as did the culvert crossing of this diversion under the Trout Creek
Road.
In 1997 a revision was submitted to install two new shallow groundwater monitoring
wells upstream and downstream of the mine reclaimed area. These wells were installed
in 1997 and replaced the old upstream end downstream wells. This was done since the
downstream well and surface water monitoring points were near the PdtM Edna mine
and were recording fluctuating data. The first analyses of these wells is submitted in
this report.
:r;:
~~
