The purpose of these
inspections was to observe the on-going construction and the
completion of the rock underdrain; inspect the area in which a
small spoil slide was removed, seepage discovered, a rock drain
established with a filter layer and later filled back in; inspect
the on-going construction of the rock surface drain; inspect the
areas currently being dumped complete by the truck/shovel fleet and
final sloped using dozers; inspect the fill for areas of water
seepage or surface drainage and to satisfy the requirements of CDMG
Rule 4.09.1(lla).
During the inspections it was observed that the slide
previously reported near stations 1+50 to 2+50 was excavated,
seepage discovered, a rock drain with a filter rock layer was built
to drain the seepage and the area filled back in; the Excess Spoil
Fill Area was dumped in and sloped from the 6859 elevation (toe
elevation) to the 7050 contour elevation; the two percent, 25 foot
wide catch bench ditch at the 6950 elevation was complete; the
surface rock drain down the three-to-one slope was complete from
the 6859 elevation (toe elevation) to the 7025 elevation, During
the quarter several other notable events have occurred in the
Excess Spoil Fill Area. The following dates reference the major
events that have occurred during the quarter.
October 5, 1994 - finish excavating and draining the
slide area between stations 1+50 and
2+50 of the West Pit Excess Fill Area
underdrain
November 10, 1994 - begin construction of the three-to-
one surface drain beginning at the toe
of the fill and working upward in
elevation along the north east side of
the three-to-one West Pit Excess Fill
Area face.
December 2, 1994 - finish West Pit Excess Fill Area
rock underdrain from stations 1+50 to
2+50
