ANNUAL REPORT
Operator: United Companies of Mesa County
i
Operation: Berry P
t
1 ~ ~A01
JAN
File Number: M-1977-132 Flpt~QelamaC~9ft~
pivi~ ~
n9 ~~#Qly
in~ ~
Anniversary Date: January 16, 2007
The Berry Pit was active this year. The crusher produced approximately 50,000 tons of
material. We crushed asphalt material first and then added some Class 6 roadbase. Our
smaller portable asphalt plant set up in the pit one time during the year and produced
approximately 14,000 tons of hot bituminous pavement. Most of the asphalt production
went to a project in Rangely. The pit continues to be used as a storage location for
gravel products.
United Companies continued mining more of phase 3 near the west end of the area when
the crusher was on site. The mining area and approximate locations of remaining
stockpiles are shown on the map. United Companies has found additional gravel on what
we thought was the pit floor. At some point in the life of the pit we will probably mine a
bit deeper. United is also considering installing ared-mix plant in this pit. The decision
depends on estimating the market against the expense involved.
I consider the weed management program successful, probably due to the dry conditions.
United has a weed management specialist contractor that visits our gravel pits twice a
year. Weeds are under control.
Sincerely,
~,u.,.~ c,~ < 1~.>~
Brent W. Kerr
Resource Manager
