SHEL70N, DlreMOr
DATE: March 30, 1987
T0: Susan Mowry ~ .~\
FROM: Jim Pendleton ' ,. ~`"~~ J
RE: Sylvester Gul Road S ilization Plan - Mount Gunnison #1 Mine
(Permit No.
I've reviewed the summary letter submitted by the operator, dated March 10,
1987. The applicant reports that the electric power poles originally affected
by land sliding have been relocated to the opposite side of the road and the
fan power substation foundation has been repaired. The operator proposes to
monitor the condition of the Sylvester Gulch Road and to remedy any additional
landslides as they occur,
I believe this approach will be acceptable. However, I recommend that you
carefully re-inspect the road in May or June, during the usually unstable
period following spring melt in the North Fork Valley. If areas of
instability redevelop adjacent to the Sylvester Gulch Road, we should require
retention and drainage of the unstable areas to avoid re-occurrence of the
problem.
sak
cc: Rob Liddle
8358E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
