2005 ANNUAL HYDROLOGY REPORT
• 1.0 INTRODUCTION
The following Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) presents hydrologic monitoring data from the Twentymile Coal
Company's (TCC's) Foidel Creek Mine site located near Oak Creek, Colorado for the 2005 water year.
Hydrologic monitoring locations and data results are discussed below. This AHR is provided in fulfillment of
reporting requirements under the Colorado State Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) Permit No. C-82-056.
Unless otherwise indicated, al] references to "2005" in this report refer to the 2005 Water Year (October 1, 2004
through September 30, 2005). Monitoring results for prior water years are presented in previous AHRs, although
historical data from prior years are summarized in same of the tables and figures for comparison with 2005 data.
Following Section 2.0's discussion of Si[e Location and Background, [his AHR provides Section 3.0 on the TCC
2005 Hydrologic Monitoring Program, which in turn is divided into eight subsections:
3.1} Groundwater monitoring,
3.2) Alluvial groundwater monitoring,
3.3) Bedrock Surface water monitoring,
3.4) Spoil springs monitoring,
3.5) Natural springs monitoring,
• 3.6) Mine water discharge sites monitoring,
3.7) CDPS discharge sites monitoring, and
3.8) Mine inflow study.
Next follows Section 4.Q, discussing Subsidence impacts for local creeks (Fish, Foidel, and Middle Creeks), and
lastly Section 5.0, Summary and Conclusions. Tables and Figures are provided in appendices located at the back
of [his AHR.
2.0 SITE LOCATION AND BACKGROUND
The TCC Foidel Creek Mine site is located approximately 20 miles southwest of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, at
[he south end of Twen[ymile Park (see Figure 1). This is an active underground coal mining operation, having
affected a cumulative total of roughly 7,000 acres in south Routt County through 2005. In 2005, TCC mining
affected on the order of 1,300 acres. The primary TCC surface facilities cover on the order of 800 acres,
including discharge pond and railroad loadout areas. The Foidel Creek Mine portals and surface facility azeas are
bordered by strip mine spoils from the farmer Colorado Yampa Coal Company (CYCC). Trench and berm
rockfall mitigation structures, located north of the primary TCC facilities, cover approximately 30 acres. The
coal refuse pile at TCC covers approximately 35 acres. Other associated satellite TCC support facilities
contribute an additional 10 to 15 acres. The associated Fish Creek Tipple site is located approximately 15 miles
• southwest of Steamboat Springs at the north end of Twentymile Park, covering an area of approximately 15 acres
1
