n
~~
Spring 5-49 was located in the II-W South area just upstream of the
NPDES 016 pond. It was a developed spring that flows into a metal stock
tank. It was first sampled in August 1997. It was abandoned in August
2001 prior to being mined out.
Spring S-5, located downstream of Spring 5-41 in a side draw to the 006
Gulch, is in an ephemeral stream channel. Flows have been observed only
three times at this site; June 1983, May 1997, and June 1998.
Spring S-7 in an alluvial clearwell located adjacent to Hubberson Gulch.
It serves as the non-potable water supply at the Smith ranch. Due to the
taste and possible coliform contamination of the spring, bottled water
is used for drinking. Sampling at this spring was discontinued in 1990,
but was reestablished in 1999 since it is downstream of mining at the
Seneca II-W South area, Its EC plot indicates an increasing trend.
The hydrology monitoring program at the Seneca II-W Mine requires a •
spoil spring survey every year after the spring snowpack runoff. Spoil
Spring 1 (WSSPGI, not to be confused with WSPG1), was discovered in 1998
above the NPDES 005 pond (D pit area). It existed approximately 800 feet
southeast of Well GW-S2W -14W. This site was regraded in the winter of
2001/02. Flow resumed in the spring of this year. Its EC plot indicates
an increasing trend.
Spoil Spring 2 (WSSPG2) was discovered in June 1999. It is located in
the main stream channel adjacent to Spring S-5. Its EC plot indicates an
increasing trend.
Spoil Spring 3 (WSSPG3) was discovered in September 1999. It is located
immediately to the east of Pond 006. Its EC plot indicates a decreasing
trend.
Spoil Spring 4 (WSSPG4) was first sampled this year. It contains the
combined discharges of the partially backfilled A and B pits. It is •
sampled at the outlet of the haul road culvert just above Pond 006.
?0
