ANNUAL REPORT
April 27, 1999
UNITED/NORWOOD PIT
M-88-037
Following is a description of the current status of the UnitedMorwood Pit in Montrose
County, as well an explanation of the activities that occurred during the report year.
Please refer to the enclosed map.
Phase I, which is the original mine area, has been completely mined as of late 1998. This
area is still to be used as a process area for gravel crushing and asphalt production, as
well as a storage area for crushed and graded gravels. The sales office and truck scale is
also situated in the southwest section of Phase I.
* 1. The sloped bank along the western boundary of Phase I have been finish graded and
seeded. This work was completed during 1998.
*2. A water storage pond was constructed in the northwest comer of Phase I. This pond
is a 4-celled structure intended to store water in the upper chamber and to settle and
recirculate wash water being used to wash aggregates. The original plan was to situate
the storage pond along the southem boundary of Phase 1, but it became necessary to
construct the structure it the present location in order to properly utilize the water rights
that were acquired for the purpose.
*3. During the report year a storage pile of topsoil was places along the southem
boundary of Phase II. This soil was removed from the westem section of Phase II in
preparation for the coming season's crushing program.
*4. Approximately 4 acres of the westem section of Phase R was stripped of topsoil and
overburden. This area will supply pit run gravel for crushing for the next 2 to 3 years.
This estimate is based on current demands for gravel in the area.
