Long
Divivon Dvector
l have reviewed the Keenesburg Mine, 1998 Annual Reclamation Report and Annual Vegetation
Ivtonitoring. The vegetation monitoring report is well presented and thorough. 1 would like to
commend CEC on the quality of the report. The following are my comments in regards to this
report:
Map VSL99 does not make it clear that the interseeded areas were interseeded in 1998. The
map should designate that these areas were seeded in 1995, yet interseeded in 1998. The
report should also state the seedmix used, and in when the interseeding was conducted, fall or
spring.
~r lam in agreement with you that CEC needs to clearly designate on a map where, and how
many acres were backfilled and graded in 1998. This same designation is needed for topsoil
replacement.
Is Pit A in final grading configuration? I was under the impression that it has received final
grading yet page 127 indicates that an additional 2,600 BCY of material are required on Pit A
to bring to approved contours. CEC needs to clarify this point.
Sa I understand the argument CEC is making regarding species diversity and vegetative life form
composition. If CEC feels they have enough substantiating evidence to support a proposal to
revise the success standards, 1 suggest they submit this request as a technical revision to the
permit.
If you have any additional questions for me, please ask.
Nt : \c o a t \j h b\ 8102 8 a rr. d oc
