I • SECTION 8 -REGRADED OVERBURDEN SAMPLING
RULE REQUIREMENT
Sampling of regraded overburden is performed at a density of one sample per five acres
of regraded area (PAP Exhibit 6, Item #4, Colowyo letter of January 4, 1983). Colowyo
recognizes the potential for elevated SAR values (PAP page 2.04.6-9). Threshold SAR
values for special handling are identified as "suspect levels". The SAR "suspect level" at
Colowyo is 15 (PAP, Exhibit 6, Item #4, Colowyo letter of January 4, 1983). Remedial
measures consist of additional samples to determine the extent of the suspect material
(PAP, Exhibit 6, Item #4, Colowyo letter of January 4, 1983). If the aerial extent is
greater than one acre, it was once to be covered with at least five feet of acceptable
material. This requirement was reduced to 18 inches of topsoil cover (PAP, Exhibit 6,
Item #4, Division letter of January 24, 1983). See Exhibit 8A for permit commitment
documentation.
GENERAL DISCUSSION
2004 Sampling and Laboratory Analysis -Colowyo sampled 15 locations of regraded
overburden during 2004 (See Exhibit 8C for location of tracking sheet). No samples
exhibited SAR levels over 15. Specific overburden sample suspect levels can be
• referenced in Exhibit 8B. The regraded overburden sampling results aze located in
Exhibit 8D of this ARR.
L_J
