ANNUAL REPORT `'c <br />Operator: United Companies of Mesa County RECE~v `D <br />Operation: Hall Gravel Pi[ DEC 11 201 <br />FileNutnber: M-1983-142 DjVts~Gno`M,~gtelsandGe~la9Y <br />Anniversary Date: December 21, 2001 <br />The Hall Gravel Pit was inactive this year. <br />Chemical herbicide was applied to the shoulder areas of the access road. Herbicide was sprayed in late <br />March and then again in late September. Knapweed has infested this area and [he herbicide has been <br />applied in an attempt to control this noxious weed. The Spring spraying seemed to be quite effective. The <br />Fall spraying was done on a smaller scale to treat knapweed [ha[ had survived the Spring herbicide <br />application. The areas that were treated with chemical herbicide (Curtail) during the Spring and Fall <br />applications are shown on the ntap that is attached to this report. <br />United Companies will be submitting a Technical Revision for the Hall Pit permit in the near future. The <br />Technical Revision will treat a number of issues at [his site including: <br />1. Change of post mining land-use from residential to desert rangeland. <br />2. Request that gravel extraction be allowed to the boundary at the south side of the permit area. <br />3. Request that a part of the Hall Pit area be allowed to be used for a gravel processing area and <br />gravel storage area during the operation of [he adjoining BLM Pit # I. The area [hat United <br />Companies expects to use for gravel processing and storage has been affected previously by gravel <br />mining of the Hall Pit. United Companies will also request [hat [Ite Hall Pi[ be used for access to <br />the new mining area. <br />A map of the permit area is attached. This ntap shows the area that has been affected by mining and related <br />activities at the site. I[ also shows the area that is expected to be included in the Technical Revision as <br />processing and storage areas for the neighboring BLM Pit #I. <br />
