Additional Page
2002 Annual Report
Winkler Light Aggregate Quarry
M-1989-065
Centennial Materials, Inc.
Anniversary Date: April 26
Overview of Permit Year: During the 2001/2002 operating year there was a great deal of activity at this
site. Most of the operation remains much as it was last year with another small northward expansion of
the Main Quarry (see Map 3b). There was limited activity at the Cut Stone Quarry portion and that
disturbance remains rather small and essentially identical to last year.
Annual Report Maps: Enclosed are four color maps showing the primary areas of disturbance and the
type of disturbance occurring in each area. Map 1 shows the entire site and is primarily a guide map.
Map 2 includes the Cutstone portion and Maps 3a and 3b show the information for the Main Quarry
area.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land has increased to 88.5 acres as a result of the small
northward expansion of the main quarry. However, because 5.1 acres was backfilled, topsoiled and will
be seeded the amount of actual unreclaimed disturbance has decreased by about 2.5 acres from last year.
A significant portion of the total affected land is contained in the access road. The Cut Stone
portion amounts to about 5 acres, including the access road to that site. The remainder is involved in the
main quarry operation, stockpiles, and office area. The plant was relocated from outside quarried land to
the inside of the quarried land and down in the quarry hole. The stockpiles are still kept out of the
quarry hole, but some stockpiling is done near the plant, as is usually the case.
Revegetation: No additional revegetation was done in the last year as no land was available. However,
in the main quarry area, 5.1 acres has been backfilled and topsoiled and will be seeded about the time
this annual report is due. That will be the first actual quarry reclamation implemented.
Expected Activity (2002/2003): There will be some additional expansion of the Main Quarry
westward during the next year, and possibly southward into Phase 2. The sediment basin will be
eliminated by the westward mining, but the actual quarry area will replace the basin. Although the basin
collected some water, very little sediment ever accumulated in the basin. This indicates soil loss from the
adjacent stockpile is now minimal and the need for a specific sediment basin has been eliminated. The
Cut Stone quarry area may expand slightly.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a self bond. A copy of the latest financial statement is enclosed.
M-7989-065 Winkler Light Aggregate Quarry
Schmidt Construction Company 2002 Annual Report Page 1 of 1
