1 <br />RECEIVED <br />ANNUAL REPORT <br />Operator: United Companies of Mesa County OCr ~ 8 ~~ <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />Operation: Railhead Gravel Pit <br />File Number: M-1995-036 <br />Anniversary Date: October 19, 2002 <br />The Railhead Gmvel Pit was active during the report year. Gravel was mined, processed and stored on site <br />Gravel was sold through United Companies' adjacent River Road facility. <br />The part of the permit area that is located on the west side of Railroad Circle was mined for the Srst time <br />during the past year. The part of this area was cleared and grubbed during the winter. Gravel was mined <br />from the new area and transported to the lazger part of the Railhead Pit for processing and storage. <br />Technical Revision 1 was approved by the Division during the year to allow the pit floor for stockpiling of <br />used concrete and asphalt for recycling. The stockpiled materials were processed and recycled during the <br />year. <br />United Corpanies continues to uses clean dirt and inert materials as backfill at the Railhead Pit. <br />Reclamation activity consisted of dozing overburden material to proper grade for final configuration at <br />approximately 600 feet of the pit perimeter. All other parts of the pit perimeter are located in active mining <br />areas or have not been graded to date. The pit was examined for the presence of noxious weeds during <br />March and October. No weed problems were noted during any part of the growing season [his year. <br />
