l the Atterberg Limits, ASTM D-423, were performed for each representa-
J tive soil type in order to permit determination of index properties
' and the Unified Soil Classification.
For proper analysis of the stability conditions on site, shear
strength information was required for the materials exposed in the
high wall cut, and which also formed the foundation soil fcr the area
1 to be evaluated. Additional shear strength information was also re-
I quired for the existing ber+ch fill materials, both in their existing
condition of low density, and in a high density, compacted condition.
1 A detailed graphical representation of shear strength results will be
found in the Appendix of this report. However, this information may
I be summarized as follows:
Materials exposed in high wall cut and foundation materials:
p (total stress) = 72 degrees
l C = 216 psf
~ = 113 pcf
I Peak ~ (effective stress) = 33.7 degrees
C = 173 psf
2S = 101 pcf
I Residual ~ = 16.7 degrees
C = 0 psf
I ZS' = 101 pcf
1 Existin4 Bench Fill Materials:
Peak ~ = 90.2 degrees
l C = 0 psf
D" = 109.9 pcf
I Residual d = 30 degrees
C = 0 psf
.. 7l = 109.9 pcf
-4-
