s
Sanborn Creek Mine 1995 Annual Hydrologic Report
The water level in SC-1 has been in the range from 6011 feet to
6028 feet. The water level in SC-2 has been in the range from 6051
feet to 6081 feet. The water level in SC-3 has been in the range
from 6069 feet to 6088 feet.
Station WSC DH12, a methane degassification drill hole for the
Hawk's Nest Mine, is monitored annually in June for field
parameters and full suite of groundwater parameters. WSC DH12 was
dry. The purpose of monitoring WSC DH12 is to determine the water
level in the E-Seam workings of the Hawk's Nest Mine. This is the
only remaining drill hole open into the Hawk's Nest Mine from the
surface following reclamation activities by the Division. Other
drill hole sites were inspected with Division personnel in June
1994 to determine if any were usable for SMC monitoring activities.
None of the open drill holes were down-dip from WSC DH12, so the
Division reportedly reclaimed all other drill holes.
Sanborn Creek Mine Discharge
•
•
Outfall 011 is the mine water discharge from the Sanborn Creek
Mine, which discharges into Sanborn Creek. Outfall 011 was
monitored for the full suite of groundwater parameters quarterly
for 1995, as required by Technical Revision No. 20. The data for
Outfall 011 are contained in Appendix 5.
During 1994, MSHA granted approval to use the idle C-Seam workings
as a sump. This has increased the retention time to settle out the
suspended solids from the mine discharge water. Weekly monitoring
of Outfall 011 for the discharge permit requirements has shown
continued compliance with the total suspended solids effluent
limitation. As a result of the continued compliance, the discharge
permit was amended to sampling for Total Suspended Solids on a
monthly basis, beginning with the fourth quarter of 1995. Field
parameters are still measured weekly.
The annual mine inflow study is presented on the Mine Inflow Map in
the appendix. No significant changes to mine inflow have occurred
in the past year.
10
