• Hlue Ribbon Mine - AHIt Page 3
The pH and temperature data for the underdrains is presented in the enclosed data pages in the
GD-XX page series.
NPDES MONITORING
There was no discharge from the sediment ponds during the year therefore no NPDES sampling
was conducted.
MINE WATER
The mine was sealed in 1986. No mine water inflow information has been collected from the
mine since it was sealed.
CONSUMPTIVE USE OF WATER
There was no consumptive use of water during the year.
METHODS
• The following outline explains the methods used to perform the current field monitoring:
pH - A Cole Parmer pocket-size tester. Range: -1.0 to 15.0 pH. Resolution: 0.1 pH.
Accuracy: +/- 0.1 pH. Automatic temperature compensation 0 to 50 °C. Operating
temperature: 0 to 50 °C. Up to three point calibration 4.0, 7.0 and 10.0.
Conductivity -One Cole Parmer TDS Testr 20 pocket size tester. Accuracy: +/- 2% FS.
Temperature compensation: automatic 0 to 50 °C. Operating temperature: 0 to 50 °C.
Ranges: 0 to 0 to 1,900 umhos/cm and 2.0 to 19.90 mmhos/cm.
Depth to Water - A Water Level Indicator (M-Scope) is used to measure depth to water.
The cable is marked in 5-foot increments. A tape measure is used to determine accurate
distances between marked increments.
Temperature -One of two methods; I) a standard mercury thermometer which measures
temperature in degrees Celsius or; 2) a microprocessor based temperature tester which
measwes temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit with a 1° accuracy.
Flow - One of two methods is used to determine the flow at the surface water monitoring
stations. The flow in Hubbard Creek is determined by measuring the depth and velocity of
flow in the 10.0 foot diameter culvert at the entrance to the property. This flow value for
Hubbard Creek is representative of both upstream and downstream monitoring stations.
The flow from the bench underdrains is determined by timing flow into a container of
known size.
