At the Seneca II P:i ne, there are four natural sprinrs and seven spoils spring moni torinc
sites. Springs a , Z, 3, and 5, r:hich discharge from undisturbed areas, are monitored
annually in September for flow, field parameters (pH, conductivity, and temperature) and
the surface water parameter long list.
Upon request by the CMLRD, a spoils spring survey was performed on reclaimed lands in the
fall of 19851 five spoils springs were located within the permit boundary at that time.
Two more springs were identified in the fall of 1986. These spr inos were and continue to
be monitored every fall for flow and, in those instances where flow exceeds three gallons
per minute, for field parameters.
Because of the importance of better defining and being able to more accurately predict
impacts to the quality and quantity of Fish Creek due to mining at the Seneca II Mine,
additional monitoring has been committed to as described as follows. Spoils Spring ~7
will be monitored biweekly and concurrently with sites SN'-52-6 and NPCES 004 for flow and
field parameters. This 'additional monitorine takes place during the normal (March to
October) surface water monitoring period. In June, Spoils Spring ;;1 will also be sampled
for the surface water parameter long list. Upon evaluation of the collected data in the
1967 AHR, PCC will determine if this continued empnasis in monitoring is necessary. In
addition, four new stream monitoring sites will be established in play 1987, assuming that
the sites can be legally and practically accessed. In particular, two sites will be
established on Fish Creek, one immediately above where Cow Camp Creek confluences with
Fish Creek (SN66W15AC) and one immediately below where Bond Creek confluences with Fish
Creek (SN66V;3DD). The remaining two sites will be established near the mouths of Cow Camp
and Bond Creeks. These four new sites will be monitored monthly during the growing season
from May through September on the same day of the month that sites NPDES 004 and 007 are
monitored for total dissolved solids.
The sites will be monitored for flow, field parameters and the surface water parameter
short list. This program will be subject to revision upon review and interpretation of
the collected data by PCC and CMLRD personnel.
Surface water quality de to are presented in Appendix C. Hydrographs are presented .in
Appendix D. Percent millieeui va lent values are presented in Tables 17 through 19. Crest
(~ stage gauge rating curves are presented in Appendix E. NPDES discharge monitoring reports
(DMR) are presented in Appendix F.
?8
