i.ilii ~~~~ ~~ <br />n i <br />1'] Cabin lone, 5 to 15 percent slopes <br />BRIEF MAP UNIT DESCRIPTION <br />This unit is on gentle alluvial fans and terraces. The mein plant association <br />is Arizona fescue/mountain muhly. Elevation ranges from 8,500 to 10.500 feet <br />above sea level. The average annual precipitation is 1"] to 20 inches. <br />COMPOSITION AND INCLUSIONS <br />Included in this unit are small areas of Gateview soil, and some moderately <br />deep and shallow soils on steeper slopes which make up about 15 percent of the <br />unit. Some areas of Cabin soil have a cobbly loam surface layer. <br />SOILS <br />Cabin soil is deep and well drained. It formed in mixed alluvium or glacial <br />outwash. Typically, the surface layer is very dark grayish brown loom about A <br />inches thick. The upper 9 inches of the subsoil is dark yellowish brown cl;ly <br />loam. The lower 5 inches of the subsoil is brown calcareous very gravelly <br />sandy clay loam. The substratum is brown calcareous extremely gravelly sand to <br />a depth of 60 inches or more. <br />Permeability of Cabin soil is moderate. Available water capacity is low. <br />Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is slow to moderate and <br />Lhe water erosion hazard is low. <br />POTENTIAL NATURAL VEGETATION <br />The main plant association on this unit is Arizona fescue/mountain muhly. <br />Other plants in this association include western wheatgrass, fringed sage, <br />Parry oatgrass, blue grams, sedges, rabbitbrush, prairie junegrass, fleabane, <br />muttongrass, and pussytoes. <br />PRESENT VEGETATION <br />Various seral stages of this plant associuti on orcu r, in ^ddiLion Lo Lhe main <br />plant association. . <br />MASS MOVET4Nf POTENTIAL on this unit is very low. <br />This unit is -located in areas of subdivision development. Therefore. <br />_~- additional interpretations related to residential planning have been included. <br />Large stones, which are mainly 3 to 10 inches in diameter, affect the ease of <br />- excavations for dwellings. The extremely gravelly sand substratum in Cabin <br />soil does not adequately filter effluent from septic systems. <br />51 <br />
