DMG Permit No. M-88-112
Monthly Sampling
Dear Mr. Dillie:
All required sampling was completed during the month of August. Enclosed are analytical reports
from Acculabs for the recent monthly sampling period as specified in the April 1992 Abatement
Plan. The cross-reference table between sample identification numbers, sample types and sample
locations is also attached. Analysis that have not been received will be forwarded to you as I
receive them.
All surface water stations were inspected and RS-4 and RS-6 were found to be dry.
Vacuum on the lysimeters was verified and no water was present to sample.
When we checked the piezometers on the main embankment of the Tailings impoundment on
09/01 /99, the piezometers were dry or contained below 12 inches of water.
The two west pit piezometers were measured for depth to water on 08/31 /99, with the following
result: BF-1 was 12.30 ft and BF-2 was 15.90 ft. The other piezometers in the West Mine area were also
checked with the following result: PW-1 was 16.53 ft, PW-2 was 16.0 ft, PW-3 was 23.71 ft and PW-4
was 26.10 ft.
The underdrain was measured at approximately 29 gpm
The collection pond's leak detection system was sampled and pumped dry. The leak was
measured at approximately 55 GPAD.
The evaporation system was in operation most of the month. The down time was attributed to
routine maintenance or pump repair.
As approved by the DMG, water was transported from the evaporation system collection pond to
the tailings impoundment via water truck. The total volume moved during the month of August was
2,614,000 gallons.
Water from the seep was routed to the evaporation system collection pond on 8/25/99. We are no
longer routing water to the infiltration trench. The flow from the seep is approximately 1 10 gpm.
