.. .. r r
GRAZING PLAN
CHZMNEY ROCR MINE
This section represents a conceptual grazing plan for the Chimney Rock Mine.
Grazing should not be permitted until herbaceous cover and production are
adequate to control erosion. In order to prepare the area for grazing the
following ideas are presented:
1. Carry out the proposed rill and gully plan.
2. Seed the areas disturbed by the construction of cross
channels and rock drains.
3. Interseed the entire reclaimed area with shrubs and fortis to
increase cover and production as well as species diversity.
Possible shrub species are Four wing saltbush, Antelope
bitterbrush and Winterfat. Possible forb species are Yarrox
and Louisiana sage.
4. No visible signs of erosion should remain or be present prior
to grazing.
5. To determine xhen the area could be grazed permanent
herbaceous cover transacts and exclosure cages should be
established on the reclaimed area. The results of the data
can be compared xith that from the reference area or Soil
Conservation Sere ice data.
6. Grazing will be consistent xith appropriate SCS guidelines
including number of animals per acre, percent cover
required for slope stability, etc.
7. Grazing will be the year after attainment of acceptable
cover, species diversity and slope stability.
