y~
EXHIBIT B---SITE DESCRIPTION
•
VEGETATION AND SOIL CHARACTERISTICS
~II IIIII~II~II~~'~~
sss
The Van 4 shaft is located on the top of Monogram Mesa in a large open
park having a gentle undulating southerly aspect. The terrain is visually
dominated by low-growing grasses interspersed with Sagebrush and an
occasional Juniper. The surrounding vegetation consists of Pinyon-Juniper,
Sage and grasses, Vegetative cover for the pa ~ is estimated at iv°io consisting
of the following: short grasses 88% (56°k blue Grama and 32% Western
Wheatgrass), 6% Snakeweed, Scarlet Falsemallow, and other fortis, 4%
Sagebrush 12-24 inches high, and 2% Cactus. The site elevation is
approximately 6900 feet. (See Figure 6.3.2.1)
PERMANENT MAN-MADE STRUCTURES
The only buildings in the area are those that support the mining operation
and are owned by Energy Fuels. They include the headframe and ore bins, the
hoist house, the shop and the change room . County road DD-19 provides
access to the site and passes through the site as close as 200 feet from the
shaft. A San Miguel Power power line parallels the road 50 feet further to the
east, with a barbed-wire fence between the road and the power line.
Approximately 650 feet southwest from the shaft is a pre-mine stock pond that is
currently not used. (See Figure 6.3.2.2)
WATER RESOURCES
Drainage from the affected area is controlled by berms around the toe of
the dump area and as such will not leave EFN property boundaries. Drainage in
the area is generally to the southwest, but there are no major streams or springs
in the area of the shaft or the mining claims that make up the Van 4 property
holdings. As on other areas of Monogram Mesa, there are numerous small stock
ponds in the area, none of which will be impacted by continuing operations.
•
