~n~ilt`r ~~ ~tirittal[un
Mr. Dick Gamewell
' June 22, 1982
Page - Six -
Comment No. 2 - "Another concern that is not discussed is the noi~:e
level at the sorter. With moving belts, screens, and an air blast,
the decibel level could be very high. What plans do they have for
personnel protection?"
Response to Comment No. 2 - Concerns about hearing protection fal~
within the jurisdiction of MSHA, and per MSHA regulations all ore sorter
personnel are required to wear ear plugs when working within the t~uild-
ing, but outside of the control roomJoffice.
Comment No. 3 - "Dn page 2-11 reference is made to removal of uranium
and radium from the wash water circuit in table 5. This table is
not included in the material I have. Any re-circulated water prot~ably
will build up an increasing load of dissolved solids. I see no reason
that uranium and radium would not also build up in that water. Ccnsid-
erably more documentation must be provided on the quality of the cre
sorter wash water."
Reponse to Comment No. 3 - The ore sorter wash water circuit is a closed
circuit. Water in the holding tank, which is part of the wash water
circuit, is diluted frequently by additions of treated makeup vrater to
that tank.
Comment No. 4 - "I would like more information relative to the surface
water quality, particularly the trace metal analysis alluded to in 2,
2, 3, B, and C."
Response to Comment No. 4 - Trace metal and radiochemical water quality
data for the treated water discharge from the mine for the period
December, 1973, to the present are available for review at the Water
Quality Control Division, Colorado Department of Health. Trace metal
and radiochemical data for Ralston Creek are available for revievr at
the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission and the U. S. Environ-
mental Protection Agency.
Comment No. 5 - "In general, it seemed as though their answers were not
responsive or helpful."
Pesponse to Comment No. 5 - Cotter has responded to each and every
comment made by reviewing agencies. Without reference to specific
criticisims of this reviewer Cotter is unable to constructively respond
further to this comment, and is unfairly disadvantaged.
