S
• INTRODUCTION:
This is the 1986 hydrology report for the Somerset Mine. The
mine status is that of temporary cessation. The portals were
sealed during May and June.
The property is located 11 miles east of Paonia aloncj State
Highway 133.
Elk Creek, Bear Creek, and Hubbard Creek flow across the
property to the North Fork of the Gunnison River (see Nep 2).
Elk Creek which drains the eastern portion of the property has
intermittent, seasonal flow. Bear Creek is an ephemeral
stream, which drains the central portion of the mine holdings.
Peak flows occur during runoff. Hubbard Creek is a perennial
stream which drains the western portion of the reserve.
During 1986, Raiser submitted a water management plan to replace
the original, approved water inflow study (Permit No. C-81-022).
The objectives of this program are to gather Hubbard Creek
baseline flow and quality data and water inflow rates into the
sealed mine workings. The monitoring stations for this program
are:
H-1 - Surface water station located along Hubbard Creek just
below the culvert at the former fan site. mhis
station continues to provide stream flow and quality
baseline data.
H-10 - Groundwater well located at previous upper substation's
site along Hubbard Creek. This station monitors Water
inflow rates into the sealed mine workings aifd
quality.
B-6 - Former power hole located along Bear Creek used as
groundwater well to monitor water inflow rates a1'i'd•
quality in Three Dip mine area. Degas well, B-5
provides a backup station, if required.
The following sections of this report describe the methods and'
results of the monitoring activities at the Somerset dine sti'~e.~
SURFACE WATER MONITORING
Quarterly surface water samples for flow and water quality were
taken during March, June, September and December.
The sampling stations are:
H-1 - Station located along Hubbard Creek below culvert at
former fan site.
H-2 - Station located along Hubbard Creek adjacent to
crusher pad below the Blue Ribbon Mine.
