DMG Permit No. M-88-112 May Monthly Sampling Dear Mr. Dillie: All required sampling was completed during the month of May. The NANO/RO water plant operated intermittently during the month. A total of 10,418,900 gallons of water (31.98 acre feet) was treated and discharged into Rito Seco during the month of May. All surface water stations were inspected daily and RS-4 and RS-6 were found to be dry. Vacuum on the lysimeters was verified and no water was present to sample. When we checked the piezometers on the main embankment of the tailing impoundment on 29 May 2001, the piezometers were dry or contained below 12 inches of water. The west pit piezometers were measured for depth to water on May 24, 2001, with the following result: BF-1 was 27.48 ft., BF-2 was 31.07 ft., BF-4 was 24.65 ft. and BF-6 was 30.50 ft. The other piezometers in the West Mine area were also checked with the following result: PW-1 was 27.76 ft., PW-2 was 28.11 ft., PW-3 was 35.37 ft. and PW-4 was 30.03 ft. The underdrain w'as measured at approximately 43 gpm. The collection pond leak detection system was pumped on 1 June 2001; the leak was approximately 9.12 gpad. We are still pumping the collection pond weekly to maintain a small volume of water in the pond. No holes in the liner have been found to repair. The seeps remain dry. With DMG approval a total of 2,152,400 gallons (6.61 acre feet) of brine water was pumped from the evaporation system collection ponds to the tailings impoundment.
