Changes in natural discharge of groundwater to the surface system are not apparent from review
of the data. Induced recharge caused by subsidence may be occurring, especially at the
intersection of the Twentymile sandstone and Foidel Creek, which has been subsided and
fractured. However, stream flow and alluvial water level data do not indicate a discernable water
loss, indicating induced recharge is likely minimal.
Subsidence Impacts on Foidel and Middle Creeks
The PHC predicts stream gradient changes caused by subsidence in Foidel Creek and Middle
Creek. These gradient changes will result in areas of ponding with corresponding adjacent areas
of stream erosion. As a result of mining in Panels 7, 8, and 9 in the EMD, four areas of ponding
have developed along Foidel Creek, resulting in 5 acres of flooded area alone the valley bottom.
Any increase in sedimentation is not evident based on site 900 water quality data downstream of
this subsided area. General water qua]iry changes are not apparent. Observed impacts are in line
with predicted impacts.
Please review our comments and call if you have any questions. For those questions where a
response is required, the Division requests that you provide responses no less than 45 days from
receipt of this letter.
Sinc~ eFel~~~~
~1/lp,H_/ '~i~
Kent A.
