William J. Carter
Re: 1998 Annual Reclamation Report
(2)(b) Rill and Gully Survey:
December 1. 1998
As part of the routine monthly inspections, the reclaimed areas are evaluated for revegetation
success and for the formation of rills and gullies deeper than nine inches. This past yeaz was
the second year for the Lower Hubbard Creek and Bear Creek Fan Area sites. Revegetation
has started on both sites and there has not been significant formation of rills and gullies that
required repair and seeding. The all-native plants used on the two sites may take as long as
three seasons to become fully established.
(2)(c) Reclamation Map:
Since the permit area for the Somerset and Sanborn Creek Mine is over 9,000 acres, and the
total reclamation for the 92.3 acres of permitted disturbance is approximately 6.75 acres, any
single base map would be meaningless, and any attempt to show disturbed areas, reclaimed
areas, what yeaz final seeding occurred, when backfilling and grading was completed, topsoil
replacement depths, seed mix used, etc. would be confusing and difficult io present, at best.
Instead, any review of this Annual Reclamation Report should be done with reference to the
numerous individual area maps in the approved pemut document already in the Division
tiles.
XBOw
