DENVER OFFICE
PWBLIC FILE COPY
FILE: ~ /998-/o y
SItE: To : t
~^ ze
~t'C~ia: trG Pt-; ~
~~SUBJECT:

~ ~
MONTEZUMA COUNTY ROAD DEPARTMENT
16so FnaY i~~
CORTEZ CO. 81321
PRONE 970-565-8666
DATE
TECHNICAL REVISION /BLM TOZER PIT
DEAR MR. CIZICa~$ON:
iii iiiiiiiiuiii iii
JUN 1 5 2000
5 / ~0 / ~D o Mine~~y~d OHica
8 ~ep,~
Montezuma County is formally requesting a technical
revision in the permit for the Tozer /BLM gravel mining
operation.
We at Montezuma County Road Dept. in our continuing
ttempts to keep oyr gravel operations more environmentally
~d neighbor friendly have choose to install a stationary
conveyor system. This system will create several positive
situations for notic one county and surrounding neighbors.
EaiiY cn Gi.2 of tic CJi.CcriaS Oi BurrCiliildliiy C~.Vnc'l~c was
the large scar and ever visible county spec. road uY ___.
side of the mountain which, during high use periods would be
extensively used to transport gravel down the hill to County
stockpiles in what we now call the TozeY' pit, or to County
Roads G or elsewhere in the County. Without a doubt, the
truck noise and dust would have become a real problem. The
County has built a small pit road and will not improve the
road except for providing entry and exit to the crushing area
for the crusher it self and loaders and other necessary
equipment. The Tozer pit area will still be used for staging
and gravel storage and stockpiles. Economically the conveyor
syste~r wi~,1 ~ a tremendous benefit to the County. Simply
saving the transportations costs down the hill will pay for
the system.
Loren Wixstrom of the BLM looked at the system, and was
very enthusiastic about the addition of the conveyor. The
conveyor is totally covered and is painted the color that
the BLM suggests for camouflage structures.
1 We~ a=e enclosiaig~ a map of the revisions for your rekords
and inspection. If any questions come up on this revision
please contact 6itker Randy Smith or Lloyd Everett a 5658666
Thank you very much for your assistance on this matter
and look forward to hearing from you.
sincerely yours
RANDY SMITH
DMGLTR_DOC
