1
SCOPE
' UDFCD executed an agreement with Taggart Engineering Associates, Inc. (TEA) to
conduct an initial West Valley hydrology study of South Boulder Creek spills
downstream of Highway 36 to the area of the Wellman Ditch.
Specific tasks include:
1 Request and review hydrologic modeling data by the Corps.
• Validate or modify the model with respect to the Viele Channel, Dry Creek
Ditch No. 2, and the West Valley Overflow.
• Conduct a field reconnaissance to identify hydraulic control structures and
conveyance characteristics along combined overflow and local drainage
routes.
• Prepare an initial hydrology model of the West Valley Overflow area from
Highway 36 to the Wellman Ditch and link this model to the Corps' model.
• Approximate hydraulics for flow splits and conveyances.
• Prepare a brief report with schematic maps describing the overall effort.
DATA OBTAINED AND REVIEWED
The data obtained for the Phase II effort included:
• Selected pages from Corps' reports on Boulder and South Boulder Creeks
hydrology.
• Corps' worksheets showing development of design rainfall hyetographs.
• Corps' SWMM sensitivity results for the Boulder Creek Study.
• Corps' parameter worksheets (area, lengths, and rainfall).
• SWMM executable file (the Corps' model used the EPA version of SWMM).
• As built information on some drainage structures.
• City electronic and hard copy topographic and features maps including the
entire tributary area (except Bear Canyon Creek) from the confluence with
Boulder Creek to the hog backs.
Studies and plans included:
• City of Boulder Storm Water Collection System Master Plan, WRC, December
1984.
• City of Boulder Big Dry Creek Ditch II Preliminary Design Report, MWE,
February 1996.
• 55th Street Improvements Baseline Road to Arapahoe Avenue Plans, Carter
1 Burgess, June 1996.
1 - 2
