..
INTRODUCTION
' The Twentymile Coal Company Fish Creek Tipple is located approximately 10
' miles north of Oak Creek, Colorado at the north end of Twentymile Park
(Figure 1). The tipple structure and related area cover approximately 70
acres. Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad tracks run through the site.
' lmmediately north of the Tipple is Fish Creek. The site drainage is into a
sediment pond (Pond E) which drains northward into Fish Creek. On the site
' and south of the site are reclaimed spoils which have been released from
bond.
' hydrologic monitoring has been conducted in the area since 1979. The tipple
' was constructed in 1974 and monitoring related to tipple operations began in
1979. This report covers the hydrologic monitoring for the water year
1987. October 1, 1986 to September 30, 1987. The previous monitoring of
' this area was presented in the 1986 Annual Hydrologic Report. Hydrologic
monitoring has been divided into three parts: 1) ground water, 2) surface
' water, and 3) discharge site. The monitoring locations are shown on Figure
7 and summarized on Table 1. The parameter lists are shown on Table 2 and
3. A complete listing of all water data collected at these sites has been
submitted separately. Summaries of the complete data set and the 1987 water
' year data are presented on Tables 4 to 16 and Figures 3 to 11.
flee majority of the monitoring work was conducted by a consultant, Al Miller
' of Steamboat Springs, Colorado during the 1986-1987 water year. Presently
the monitoring is conducted by Cyprus Yampa Valley Coal Corporation
personnel. All of the water quality analyses were performed by ACZ
Laboratories (formerly Bookcliffs) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Due to
' t.lie switch from calendar year reporting to water year reporting and a change
in the scope of the monitoring program in 1981, some stations have
incomplete data sets. The 1988 water year will be the first year with a
' complete date data as pe r the requirements of the new monitoring program. A
complete listing of all water quality data for this permit is presented
' under separate cover.

CI
