~~ ~ a

1984 Annual Report
Pikeview Quarry: 77-211

RULE 2.41(5): Varying amounts of fertilizer were used on several
areas. It was distributed at a rate of SOB to 70B of indicated
amounts on soil tests of that or similar material. Some areas
were not fertilized due to a perceived high quality of the soils
and/or the possibility of inducing rampant weed growth in that
particular material because of its history.
RULE 2.41(6): The road cuts revegetated amazingly well
considering that the plant growth medium was essentially parent
material and the slope is quite steep. A few weak areas do
exist, but leaving the slope very rough and seeding soon after
completion no doubt contributed to the success. Small rills have
developed, but large gullies are not present. Many native
species have invaded including gambel oak and mountain mahogany.
The abandoned road area, on the other hand, had local spots that
were very successful, but generally the seeding take was poor.
It was probably seeded too late as it is a hot site. It was
reseeded this year about two months earlier. The seeding was
much lighter as there is already some growth left from last year.
RULE 2.41(7): During the next year it is expected that the
mining area in Tract AA will be about the same. Tract AB may be
entered to some extent. Also, very limited mining may begin in
Tract AC. Most other aspects will remain the same as last year.
MAP: Two maps are included which illustrate the features of this
report.
