CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1984 ANNUAL REPORT
PIKEVIEW QUARRY
77-211
REPORT IN BRIEF: Mining continued in essentially the same area
as last year, Tract AA. Preparation for mining occurred in Tract
AC. The new quarry/access road was completed. The old stockpile
area was graded and the Tract WDT area was topsoiled. Seeding
was done on the new access road slopes, the original access road,
the old stockpile area, and Tract WDT. The abandoned road was
reseeded due to a poor take in last year`s seeding.
RULE 2.41(1): Mining occurred over an area of about 5 acres.
The area of mining moved slightly downslope in Tract AA and
included all of the limestone fin on the Tract WDT/AA boundary.
Although mining was supposed to begin in Tract AC, various
logistic problems delayed the mining. Preliminary extractive
site preparations were all that could be completed.
The area including the stockpiles, plant and shop remained
unchanged. The rip rap plant was slightly changed so as to
provide somewhat better access and efficiency.
The new Castle Concrete office site was issued a building premit
and work began on construction of the office late in April. The
large topsoil stockpile that resulted from the excavation of the
office site was partly taken to Tract WDT and the rest is being
moved to the stockpile in the SE corner of the permit below Tract
AC. Grading of the subsoil and parent material derived from the
road cuts was spread over the old stockpile area.
RULE 2.41(2) and RULE 2.41(3): In the last year a considerable
amount of affected land has had reclamation initiated, but no
land has been release from bond. The approximate acreages are:
AREA ACREAGE STATUS
ACCESS ROAD 3.0 2nd year revegetation
ORIGINAL ACCESS ROAD 2.0 seeded
ABANDONED ROAD 2.5 seeded ~ reseeded
OFFICE SITE 3.0 seeded 6 trees planted
TRACT WDT 2.0 seeded
