RECEIVED
APR 2 92003
INTERNATIONAL URANIUM (USA) CORPORATION Division at Minerals and GeolorJy
2003 ANNUAL REPORT
Sundav Mine - M-1977-285
International Uranium (USA) Corporation (the "Operator") conducted a number of site
maintenance activities and reclamation tasks a[ the Sunday Mine, Permit M-1977-285 (the "Permit")
during the period May 2002 through April 2003. In addition, the Operator continues to coordinate with
staff at the Durango field office of the Division of Minerals & Geology (the "Division") to finalize
revisions to site maps and to provide updates on site conditions for the affected areas included under the
Permit. - --
During the summer and fall months of 2002 the Operator had surveys conducted of all affected
areas, facilities, and remote installations associated with the Permit. Updated maps for this Permit were
submitted to the Division field office in February 2003. Information exchange is continuing with
Division staff to resolve discrepancies between the updated maps and maps previously on file with the
Division. The updated maps will provide the basis for reclamation surety reviews and for the
development of reclamation plans.
The materials submitted to the Division in Febrnary 2003 include a complete description of all
installations and facilities associated with this Permit (ref. letter to Bob Oswald, Division of Minerals &
Geology, February 6, 2003, from Terry V. Wetz, including Maps, Site Reports, and Responses to
Inspection Reports). This detail information is not included herewith. Likewise, the update maps
submitted in February are not resubmitted herewith.
In addition to the update and reporting discussed above, the Operator also completed a number of
maintenance and reclamation activities at the Sunday Mine in the fall of 2003. These activities include
the following:
- the existing BLM road which traverses up the ridge above the Sunday group of mines was
bladed to reduce erosion and sedimentation;
- the "Old Sunday Portal" was bulldozed closed and the surrounding area was regraded;
- access to the Sunday Portal was temporarily closed, to prevent unauthorized intrusion, by
placing a metal hopper in front of the portal and then pushing dirt up against the structure;
- the area south and east of the "Old Sunday Portal" was cleaned of all trash and debris and
regraded;
- the concrete "grease pit", (a concrete trench for access to service mobile equipment) between
the two shop buildings was removed; all oil-stained soil in this area was aerated;
- all areas of previously identified oil-stained soil around the periphery of the shop buildings
were aerated; remediation of the oil-stained soil by aeration is showing excellent results;
- the main waste dump surface was graded to re-establish existing berms to prevent runoff;
- several electrical transformers (non-PCB contaminated) were sitting around the shop area and
various buildings, and all of these were removed from the site;
- the GMG Mine portal was permanently closed by covering it with nearby waste dump
material;
- the GMG mine site, which is a historical site and which has been partially reclaimed by
pervious operators, but which had been used for ventilation in modern times, was regraded in
