2005 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, West Flatiron, Apache Rocks,
and Sou[h of Divide Minino Areas
5.0 SOUTH OF DIVIDE MINING AREA
General Mining Plan for the E-Seam
Twelve longwall mining panels (El through E12) are currently planned for mining the E-Seam in
the South of Divide mining area (Maps 2 and 4). Each panel will extract between 8 to 14 feet of
coal.
• Longwall panels El through E4 are located generally east of Minnesota Reservoir in the
area of the Dry Fork road and the Deep Creek Ditch trans-basin diversion.
• Longwall panels ES through E8, which are separated from panels El through E4 by a
200-foot barrier, are located southward to the Lick Creek drainage.
• Longwall panel E9 is located south of Minnesota Reservoir.
• Longwall panels E10 through E12 are located in the western part of the Apache Rocks
mining area 200 to 250 fee[ stratigraphically above parts of mined longwall panels 12, 13,
and 13A.
General Mine Design
The design plan is similar to the one in the B-Seam (Map 2). The coal will be mined by the
longwall retreat method. With the exception of the tailgate entries of panels El, E5, E9, and
E12, the longwall panels will be separated by two rows of gate road pillars. Under the current
plan, the row nearest to the headgate side of the panels is planned to be on 125 by 200 foot
centers. The row of pillars on the tailgate side will be on 75 by 200 foot centers. Longwall
panels El through E8 trend roughly N80°W, are roughly 1,100 feet wide, and range in length
from about 9,000 to 11,000 feet. Panel E9 is about 1,100 feet wide and trends approximately
N10°E. Longwall panels E10 through E12 trend east to west, are 1,150 feet wide, and range in
length from approximately 4,000 to 5,500 feet.
831-032.710 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
