2005 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, West Flatiron, Apache Rocks,
and South of Divide Mining Areas
The estimated dimensions and depth range of the pond are a length of 70 feet, width of 50 feet,
and depth of 4 to 6 feet. The estimated thickness range of the clay-silt material beneath the pond
is 30 to 60 feet.
No subsidence features were observed at NIDWs 24-Oi, 02, and 03, on the west side of the drill
road of traverse G-G' about 800 feet south of pond P23-3. Iv]DWs 24-01, 02, and 03 are located
above the eastern, mined part, of longwall pane124.
4.8.2 Location 9
Location 9 is the location of stock pond P23-4 (Figure 10). No subsidence features were
observed on the old road to the pond. The pond is located 2,200 feet above the eastem solid coal
boundary of mined longwall pane122 in an area of maximum tensile strain.
Although the area around the pond is more vegetated on the dam and around the shore than it
was in July 2004 (the cattle were not watering at this pond as they were in July 2004), the water
level is perhaps 6 to 12 inches higher (Figure l0A).
The estimated dimensions and depth range of the pond are a length of 125 feet, width of 90 feet,
and depth of 4 to 6 feet. The estimated thickness range of the silt and clay alluvium/colluvium
beneath the pond is 15 to 30 feet.
831-032.710 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 21
November 2005
